Children at St Oswald's Anglican Church

We welcome all children and their families to visit us at St Oswald's during our Sunday 9.30am worship services. Our Junior Church programmes run on the majority of Sundays during term time.

Our sessions are based around the LIGHT programme which is written and developed by the Scripture Union. Currently there are 7 regulars and some occasional in our group aged 6 to 12. New children will be made very welcome.

Our two leaders are both lively and mature adults with many years experience with junior church. Sessions during Sunday morning last about 40 minute starting with group catch up time and going on to learning topic and activities reinforcing the theme

The sessions are delivered in a very friendly atmosphere. Your children will learn about Christian faith and life, about life’s big questions and how we should live together. We understand that some children may be reluctant to leave mum or dad and so parents are also welcome.

For very young children, there is a Children's Corner in church, where there are some toys to keep the young minds occupied, leaving mum and dad free to worship. We realise that keeping young children quiet is difficult at the best of times and the church is very relaxed about the presence – and sound – of young children. After returning to the church the children share communion with the adults.

We have a number of events during the year specifically catering for the children and their families, which include a children's service - where the children lead the worship - and fun days, such as the annual car wash, where the children (with adult help) clean the neighbourhood cars. The money raised is donated to the charity of their choice.
